Time Machine Playlist 4
In a landscape saturated with playlists and algorithmic recommendations, it’s always refreshing to stumble upon personal projects that aim for more than just racking up plays. The Time Machine series is exactly that: an invitation to travel across decades of sound, rediscover hidden gems, and open the door to new bands you might never have heard before.
The main idea behind these 40-track playlists is to bring to your attention new bands, meaning they are new to you. Some have been around for decades. New music is not just about finding new music from this year, 2025, but new music in general.
I limit them to just 40 tracks, which, in my opinion, is the perfect number, making each playlist between two and a half hours and three hours long, making them a quick and easy listen.
You might find some old bands/artists you like and want to explore more of their music. I am still discovering bands, that I missed the first time round, because your musical tastes evolve over time.
Some ideas for future Time Machine Posts
I love Reggae and Northern Soul, so I am thinking about making some Time Machine special playlists. A mix of just these two genres and sub-genres, maybe add a few African tracks in there as well, posted over the Christmas period. A Dub playlist, mixing old and new Dub from all around the World. I am just trying to expand the musical spectrum here on JIR!
In the new year, the plan is to post some of my all-time favourite albums with you all on the Time Machine! They will be a mix of genres for sure, with my broad tastes in music.
