Bauhaus – The Bela Session EP (2018)
Bauhaus – The Bela Session EP (2018)
Bela Lugosi’s Dead is often considered the first gothic rock record. Later, Bauhaus released a new EP in 2018, entitled The Bela Session EP, which is a remaster of the band’s first release from 1979, Bela Lugoi’s Dead. The Bela Session is a full release of the band’s first studio session from January 26, 1979. This EP was produced directly by Bauhaus and Leaving Records,in advance of the band’s 40th anniversary.
Bauhaus were an English post-punk, gothic rock band, formed in Northampton, England in 1978. The group consisted of Peter Murphy (vocals), Daniel Ash (guitar), Kevin Haskins (drums), and David J (Haskins) (bass), who are Brothers. The band was originally named Bauhaus 1919 in reference to the first operating year of the German art school Bauhaus, although they shortened the name within a year of formation.
The EP is comprised of Bela Lugosi’s Dead originally released on 6th August 1979 by the wonderful, but sadly now defunct, record label Small Wonder. Harry, also included, was originally released by Beggars Banquet in 1982; together with three previously unreleased tracks, Some Faces, Bite My Hip, and Boys (Original). The original 1979 12″ single release consisted of Bela Lugosi’s Dead, backed by Boys and Dark Entries (Demo).
Bauhaus broke up in 1983. Peter Murphy began a solo career, while Ash and Haskins continued as Tones on Tail, later reunited with David J to form Love and Rockets. David J and Daniel Ash also released numerous solo albums. Bauhaus eventually reunited for a 1998 tour and again from 2005 to 2008. They are currently reunited and touring to celebrate their 40th anniversary.
Bauhaus – Bela Lugosi’s Dead – Lyrics
White on white translucent black capes
Back on the rack
Bela Lugosi’s dead
The bats have left the bell tower
The victims have been bled
Red velvet lines the black box
Bela Lugosi’s dead
Bela Lugosi’s dead
Undead, undead, undead
Undead, undead, undead
The virginal brides file past his tomb
Strewn with time’s dead flowers
Bereft in deathly bloom
Alone in a darkened room
The count
Bela Lugosi’s dead
Bela Lugosi’s dead
Bela Lugosi’s dead
Undead, undead, undead
Undead, undead, undead
Undead
Oh Bela
Bela’s undead
Oh Bela
Bela’s undead
Bela’s undead
Oh Bela
Bela’s undead
Oh Bela
Undead
