Adam and the Ants – Zerox (1979)

Zerox was Adam and the Ants’ second single. It was released on 6th July 1979 via Do It Records, with Whip In My Valise on the B-side. Neither were included on the band’s fantastic 1979 debut album, Dirk Wears White Sox, but both were included on the expanded reissue. Adam and the Ants lasted from 1977 to 1982, existing in two main incarnations, both fronted by Adam Ant.

Version 1 (post-punk band) consisted of Dave Barbarossa, Matthew Ashman, and Leigh Gorman. All of them left the band in January 1980 at the suggestion of then manager Malcolm McLaren, to form Bow Wow Wow. I saw this version live, if I remember correctly, four times.

Version 2 (Pop Band) of Adam and the Ants was formed with Marco Pirroni (guitar), Kevin Mooney (bass guitar), and drummers Terry Lee Miall and Chris “Merrick” Hughes. I never wanted to see this version!! LOL

Adam and the Ants – Zerox – Lyrics

Lock up your brain because I’m here again
I’m never bored to steal your chords

Zerox machine
Zerox machine

Give me a line or a middle eight
I’ve got the best, so I want the rest

Zerox machine
Zerox machine

Let’s get together before it’s too late
Collect up the ideas and duplicate

Filling up the forms, send them off tonight
And you’ll be the owner of the copyright
Of the copyright, of the copyright

Time’s of the essence get your ears to the ground
However else can the hits be found?

I may look happy, healthy and clean
A dark brown voice and suit pristine
But behind the smile there is a zerox machine

(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
(I’m a) Zerox machine
