Joy Division – She’s Lost Control (1979)

As today would have been Ian Curtis’ 61st birthday, I had to post some Joy Division. Ian Kevin Curtis was born on the 15th July 1956 and sadly took his own life on 18th May 1980. Ian was an English singer-songwriter and musician. He is best known as the lead singer and lyricist of the Manchester band Joy Division.

Joy Division were an English post-punk band that formed in 1976 in Salford, Greater Manchester. Originally named Warsaw, the group consisted of singer Ian Curtis, guitarist and keyboardist Bernard Sumner, bass player Peter Hook, and drummer Stephen Morris.

After the demise of Ian, the rest of Joy Division decided to carry on with the addition of Morris’ girlfriend Gillian Gilbert, joining on keyboards, and Bernard Summer stepping into Ian’s shoes with the vocal duties. The band also changing their name to New Order.

She’s Lost control is taken from the bands debut album for Factory Records, Unknown Pleasures, which was released on 15th June 1979. It was also released single in another version in 1980 and both 7″ and 12 “ singles.

R.I.P. Ian.

Joy Division - She’s Lost Control
Joy Division – She’s Lost Control (Lyrics)

Confusion in her eyes that says it all.
She’s lost control.
And she’s clinging to the nearest passer by,
She’s lost control.

And she gave away the secrets of her past,
And said I’ve lost control again,
And a voice that told her when and where to act,
She said I’ve lost control again.

And she turned around and took me by the hand and said,
I’ve lost control again.
And how I’ll never know just why or understand,
She said I’ve lost control again.

And she screamed out kicking on her side and said,
I’ve lost control again.
And seized up on the floor, I thought she’d die.
She said I’ve lost control.

She’s lost control again.
She’s lost control.

Well I had to ‘phone her friend to state my case,
And say she’s lost control again.
And she showed up all the errors and mistakes,
And said I’ve lost control again.

But she expressed herself in many different ways,
Until she lost control again.
And walked upon the edge of no escape,
And laughed I’ve lost control.

She’s lost control again.
She’s lost control.
